James started working at Run4It as a Sales Assistant in 2017 in Edinburgh Lothian Road, before moving over to Maybury. He started his running journey as a way to keep fit for other sports, but it quickly became his passion and he has raced over every type of terrain and distance (save for Ultras!) in his 15 years of running. He has a BSc in Applied Sport Science and an MSc in Sport Performance Enhancement, in which he specifically looked at running shoe characteristics and their effect on running performance and injury risk. Outside the shop, you will probably find James up a hill somewhere in Scotland as he aims to do more hill races in the coming years.
Angus joined the Maybury team in June 2023 after being with the Inverness team since April 2022. He has competed in track and cross country for many years while also having dabbled in road and hill racing. No matter the weather you can find him soaking up the environment of a race or solo run.
Gilles started running in February 2014 after a health scare, in order to improve fitness. He has run many races from 5k up to marathon distance but gets most enjoyment doing Parkruns with his 2 sons. Gilles joined Run4It in April 2019 and his other hobbies include golf, going to the gym, listening to music and attending concerts.
Sheryl started running about 9 years ago and discovered a love for trail running after taking part in a number of road-based events. Her favourite running challenges have been out on Scotland's beautiful trails and she has completed several ultras. She likes to describe them as "moving picnics"!
James started running to supplement his training with football but soon realised his passion lay with running. Since then he has run multiple races across various distances but found his strong point to be a marathon, running the Edinburgh marathon twice and competing in the Boston marathon in 2023. Alongside running, James is currently at university and enjoys the gym and the occasional game of chess!
For Daniel, growing up in the Trossachs National Park, a gnarly trail was never far away. As he got older he found that he could combine his love of running with exploration, and gradually ticked off the Munros around his home. After a foray into triathlon, during which he competed for Scotland and Great Britain, he decided to focus solely on running. Daniel is currently looking to lengthen his running capacity, and will soon be competing in his first marathon distance at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Alongside running, Daniel is currently studying a postgrad at Edinburgh uni.
After a gap of about 20 years Ken restarted running in his mid 40s. From barely 1-2km a run he has now managed to complete two marathons and six half marathons through to his late 50s. The highlights of these were the 2022 Great North Run and 2021 London Marathon - where the crowd support was truly amazing. Ken has found a real joy from distance running and he is evangelical about the physical and mental benefits found from these activities. Running became an important part of his coping mechanism, especially during lockdown, and he can really recommend taking up running challenges in order to improve overall health and wellbeing.
Lottie joined the team in April 2023 after finding a passion for running alongside playing performance rugby at Edinburgh University, where she is in her fourth year of a degree in Politics. Having dabbled in many sports in the past, including hockey, mountain biking and netball, she has a love for the great outdoors and constantly challenging herself to push her capabilities. Lottie successfully completed her first marathon at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May 2023 and is looking forward to experiencing more running events in the future!
James was inspired by his father to start running back in 2016; it started as something to do to try and gain a little fitness, but he quickly found himself obsessed with getting faster and faster. He now runs every day (to distract himself from studying maths), and competes in a wide range of long distance events on road, track, and cross country. He’s found it to be a brilliant way to de-stress, meet new people, and explore Scotland.
Kirstie joined Team Maybury in April 2024. Kirstie recently started running again while being back at university. Kirstie enjoys being outdoors and enjoys bike packing, hiking and continues to find ways to explore what Scotland has to offer. Having done 5-10kms in the past, Kirstie has started training for half marathon distances and recently completed the Balmoral 15M and is excited for more trail events to come.
The run club meets at the Run4It Maybury shop every Wednesday at 6pm and offers varied training sessions such as steady runs, interval sessions or hill repeats. It’s free and all runners (18 or over) are welcome. For more information on joining ask in-store, visit facebook.com/groups/309351969221341 or call us on 0131 339 9898.

Over the years we have invested a load not just in the training but also in ensuring that we are giving the team the very best possible terms and conditions we can – it’s even written down in our business values.
