The AltraFWD Experience are Altra’s first running shoes to feature a drop. Both the men’s and women’s AltraFWD Experience are a 32mm to 28mm stack, making the midsole a 4mm drop. It’s fair to say these Altra running shoes might be more suited to heel strikers than the other models in their line up. As other Altra models feature Balanced Cushioning - or in simpler terms, a zero mm drop, which may not always suit heel strikers. For cushioning, the AltraFWD Experience uses a thick layer of compression-moulded foam. Altra hasn't given this a name. As Altra states they offer a ‘performance-focused ride’, we expect the midsole should offer good levels of energy return. One of the most notable design features in the AltraFWD Experience is the prominent rocker shaped geometry. This is designed to help encourage a more efficient toe-off. It should also smooth out the transition throughout the gait cycle. Made with Altra’s Standard FootShape Fit toe box, the AltraFWD Experience should feel spacious in the forefoot area. Whilst the Standard fit is not as wide as the Original FootShape Fit, it should offer more space for feet to splay than a lot of other running shoes. A simple engineered mesh upper completes the design. At Run4It, we think the AltraFWD Experience have all the traits of great go-to daily mileage running shoes. That’s because they offer lots of protection and the rocker geometry should aid forward momentum. They’re also exceptionally light, as they weigh 201 grams and 240 grams for women’s and men’s respectively.
