The adidas Adizero Boston running shoes are iconic. They've been on the feet of some of the greatest distance runners of all time. While the latest adidas Adizero Boston 12 running shoes may look slightly different to Bostons of old, they stay true to their heritage: fast and light. Designed to feel fast, protective and deliver great durability, the Adizero Boston 12 bridges the gap between daily mileage running shoes and all-out race day shoes. This balance of performance and versatility is achieved by taking the best parts from various adidas running shoes. To explain further, the top layer of the Adizero Boston 12 midsole features adidas' superfoam LIGHTSTRIKE PRO. This is the same foam that makes up the midsole of the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 - their ultimate race day performance shoe. However, to bring more durability to the Boston 12, it features a bottom layer of LIGHTSTRIKE 2.0 foam. This foam is more in keeping with the sensation you’ll experience in daily mileage options from adidas. For reference, LIGHTSTRIKE 2.0 foam is considerably softer than the first version, which featured in the Adizero Boston 11. As a result, the Boston 12 feels considerably plusher and more comfortable - particularly for heel strikers and at slower paces. The Adizero Boston 12 draws further inspiration from the Adizero Adios Pro 3 with the inclusion of ENERGYRODS 2.0. To promote a more forgiving underfoot feel for weekly sessions, the Boston 12 ENERGYRODS 2.0 are glass-fibre reinforced, rather than carbon-fibre infused. If you’re wondering why adidas use ENERGYRODS as opposed to a plate, it’s because RODS can move independently of one another and adapt to your strike. Ultimately delivering a smoother underfoot experience. With their incredibly propulsive, yet protective midsole, the adidas Adizero Boston 12 running shoes are perfectly suited to steadier to faster paced running sessions. It’s for this reason that we position them in our Enhanced Energy Experience category. When we say steadier to faster, we mean tempo runs, threshold efforts and shorter faster intervals. However, they also feel great at slower speeds and could be a great race day option. This demonstrates how versatile these running shoes are.
